Buried to the frame in a wash off Yermo Road. High-centered on the trail behind Calico. Rolled a side-by-side at Johnson Valley. If a truck can physically get within winch range of you, City Towing will get you out — and we know these trails because they're our backyard.
The Mojave is one of the best off-road playgrounds in the country and one of the least forgiving when it goes wrong. These are the calls that come in.
Soft sand at Rasor OHV, the washes off Yermo Road and Daggett-Yermo Road, silt beds near Soda Lake. Two-wheel-drives sink in minutes; even 4x4s get stuck when the tires dig.
After a monsoon cell, the dry lakes and river crossings turn to clay. Trucks buried to the doors on Harper Lake and Coyote Lake are a late-summer regular.
Lifted trucks hung up on granite in Stoddard Wells, the Calico hills, and the trails north of Daggett. We lift, crib, and winch without dragging the underside.
Side-by-sides, Jeeps, and pickups on their side or roof. We right them with straps and controlled winch pulls, then flatbed them out if they won't drive.
Johnson Valley, Stoddard Wells, El Mirage, Rasor. Blown axle, dead engine, shredded tire miles from pavement. We meet you at the nearest staging area or come in if the trail allows.
We've found customers with nothing but a screenshot of a GPS dot and a description of a hill. Get to high ground, send whatever you have, and we'll work it out.
A bad recovery is worse than being stuck. Yank on a bumper instead of a frame point and you've added a body shop bill to the tow. Every City Towing driver assesses the pull angle, the anchor, and the surface before the winch line goes tight. We carry snatch blocks, tree-saver and kinetic straps, soft shackles, recovery boards, and cribbing on every truck, and our International MV607 flatbeds have hydraulic winches with enough line to reach well off the road.
We're honest about this on the phone. A flatbed can run graded dirt roads, most OHV staging areas, and firm desert two-track. It can't crawl five miles of rock garden. If you're deep on a technical trail, we'll meet you at the nearest point a truck can reach and talk through getting the vehicle to us — sometimes that's a second recovery vehicle, sometimes it's your buddy's Jeep and our strap. We don't run heavy-duty recovery; for a semi or a loaded RV we'll point you to the right outfit rather than waste your time.
Every OHV area and BLM corridor around Barstow: Johnson Valley (including the Hammers), Stoddard Wells, El Mirage, Rasor, the Calico hills and Mule Canyon, Coyote Lake, Harper Lake, the Mojave River bed, and the trails off Yermo, Daggett, Newberry Springs, Hinkley, Lucerne Valley, Ludlow and Baker. ETAs off-pavement are longer than our highway bands — dispatch will tell you the real number for where you are.
If we pull you free and the vehicle drives, you pay for the winch-out only — see our winch-out service. If it won't drive after the recovery (bent tie rod, cracked oil pan, dead from the dunking), it goes on the flatbed and we take it to the shop you choose. Both are quoted before we leave Barstow.
The more you can tell dispatch, the faster the right truck leaves.
GPS pin by text to 760-256-5007 is best. Otherwise: the OHV area, which staging area you came in from, the trail name, and what you can see. Photos of the vehicle and the surface help.
Sand, mud, rocks, on its side? How far off a road a truck can drive? Vehicle type and whether it's lifted or stock. This decides the rigging we bring.
Assess, rig to frame or rated points, protect the anchor, controlled pull. Rollovers get righted before anything else. We don't rush it.
If it runs and steers, you're on your way — winch-out pricing only. If not, it's on the deck and headed to your shop or driveway.
Every truck in the fleet is a 2022–2023 International MV607 with a hydraulic winch and a full-length deck — the right rig for AWD, lowered, exotic, and dead vehicles alike. No subcontractors, no brokers. The truck that shows up is ours.

We dispatch from 251 Cal Ave in Barstow. These are the real drive-time bands our dispatcher quotes — not a marketing number. Traffic, weather, and where the nearest truck is at that moment can move them either way; we tell you the honest ETA when you call.

Every recovery is quoted before we leave Barstow, based on where you are, how far off pavement, and what's needed to get you out. A simple sand winch-out near a staging area is priced very differently from a rollover deep on a trail. Call 760-256-5007 and we'll give you a straight number.
If a flatbed can reach within winch range, yes. If it's a technical trail, we'll meet you at the nearest reachable point and figure out the rest — we're honest about what a truck can and can't do. Tell dispatch exactly where you are.
Get to the highest ground near you and try again; a text often goes through when a call won't. Text 760-256-5007 your GPS coordinates (screenshot your maps app). If you're with another vehicle, have them drive toward pavement and call from there.
Yes. UTVs and ATVs ride on the flatbed; motorcycles get a chock and soft straps. Rolled side-by-sides at Johnson Valley are one of our most common recovery calls.
Yes, same truck, no second wait. The tow is quoted separately and you choose the destination.
No. We're light- and medium-duty. For a heavy rig we'll tell you on the phone and point you to a heavy-duty operator so you're not waiting on the wrong truck.
Sometimes, and if it's a simple tug we'll say so. But a bad pull on a bumper or a snapped strap is how people get hurt and bumpers get ripped off. If it's buried, high-centered, or on its side, call us.
Text your GPS location to 760-256-5007. Barstow dispatch, 24/7, and we know the trail you're on.
