If you’ve never called a tow company before, the first 30 seconds can feel disorienting. You’re stressed, you may be on the side of a highway, and someone’s asking you questions that may not seem urgent. Here’s what’s happening on our end, and why it matters that you give us good answers.
Second 0–30: You call 760-256-5007. A real person picks up.
Our phones don’t go to a call center, an answering service, or a national dispatch network. The person who answers is the dispatcher in Barstow, and they’re already pulling up a map while you’re talking.
Second 30–90: Three questions.
- Where are you? Cross-streets, mile marker, or — best — a GPS pin from your phone (text the pin to dispatch if voice is hard). If you’re in a parking lot or off-road, name the nearest landmark.
- What kind of vehicle? Year, make, model, two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. This tells us which truck to send.
- What’s wrong? Won’t start, won’t move, accident, off-road stuck. Each one means a different truck and different equipment.
Second 90–180: We give you the quote and the ETA.
Before we dispatch, we tell you the cost and the time. If you can’t agree to the price, no truck rolls — you’re not stuck with a surprise. We don’t believe in starting the meter without you knowing what it’ll read at the end.
Second 180–300: A truck starts moving.
The dispatcher has already keyed up the closest available truck. The driver gets the address, the vehicle info, the issue, and your phone number. From the moment you agree to dispatch, you can usually expect:
- 15–30 minutes inside Barstow city limits
- 15–30 minutes to Lenwood, Daggett, or Yermo
- 15–45 minutes to Hinkley, Helendale, Newberry Springs
- 45–60 minutes to Fort Irwin, Ludlow, Lucerne Valley
- 60+ minutes to Baker or off-road BLM locations

Second 300 and on: Stay where you are unless you can’t.
If you’re on a highway shoulder, get out of the vehicle and stand uphill of it, behind a barrier if there is one. If you’re in a safe spot (parking lot, residential street, off-roadway), stay put. Walking around in unfamiliar territory at night or in the desert heat is more dangerous than the breakdown itself.
A few things that make the call go faster
- Have your location ready. Pull up Apple Maps or Google Maps and read your GPS coordinates if you can.
- Know your vehicle. Not just make/model — is it AWD/4WD? Aftermarket parts? Custom suspension?
- Tell us what you’ve already tried. “I tried jumping it” or “It won’t shift out of park” saves us a diagnostic step.
- Have your AAA or motor club info ready if you’re using one. We’ll bill them direct on covered calls.
That’s the first 5 minutes. The next stretch is just the drive to you. If you need us now — jumpstart, lockout, tire, tow — call 760-256-5007 or start with our roadside assistance page. Hang tight.
